Our intention is to enhance the Fresh Water Farm Plan software by integrating it with the principles laid out in Schedule 7 and Good Management Practices (GMP). This is particularly relevant for Canterbury region farms. The aim is to streamline the process of aligning your farming activities with these environmental standards, thereby making compliance straightforward and transparent.

  • Understanding Schedule 7: Think of Schedule 7 as a comprehensive framework that outlines environmental objectives for farm management, with each objective broken down into specific targets. This framework also takes into account the unique needs of various sub-regions within Canterbury.
  • Insight into Good Management Practices (GMP): GMPs consist of 21 best-practice guidelines grouped into four main categories and further subdivided into nine topics. These practices are designed to guide sustainable farming operations, focusing on soil health, water usage, and nutrient management.
  • Enhancements to the Fresh Water Farm Plan Software:
    • Farm Setup Process: We’re expanding the software’s capability to include more detailed regional data, allowing you to specify not just your farm’s location but also any pertinent sub-regional characteristics.
    • Action Tracking: Whenever you log an action or measure you’ve taken on your farm, the software will prompt you to link this action to specific objectives in Schedule 7 and the relevant GMPs. This ensures that every step you take not only contributes to your farm’s productivity but also aligns with broader environmental goals.
    • Reporting and Accountability: With these new features, the software will be able to generate detailed reports showcasing how your farming practices are contributing to the achievement of environmental objectives and adherence to GMPs. This feature aims to provide clarity and accountability, helping you to monitor progress and make informed decisions about future actions.

In essence, we’re looking to make environmental compliance an integrated part of your farm management routine, ensuring that every action taken is not only beneficial for your farm but also contributes positively to the broader ecosystem.
